Signing/naming glossy prints - help

I read on a site that the best way to name and sign prints for matte/frame is with a pencil so the writing doesn't detract from the image.  Does anyone use this method, and if so, what type of pencil is used?  A regular one barely shows up on glossy ink-jet paper.

Thanks.

I don't use this method. I either use an identiy plate in lightroom or a signature brush in Photoshop.

I sign some matte prints with fine tip felt marker. But I'm thinking I will end up doing them all digitally. That way the digital version is signed as well.

How does a signature brush work?

I use photoshop but this will work in Elements too. First I create a brush. Make a new document with white fill, then add a text layer with your name using any font. Next flatten the image and create a brush. I think it is under the edit menu. Make sure you save the brush set. Another method is to write your name on a white piece of paper, scan it into photoshop and then create the brush set. To use, create a blank layer above all else, choose your brush signature and stamp on the blank layer. Next you can transform and.or rotate the brush to your liking. Flatten and save.

It worked. Photoshop has so many features that are hidden in plain sight.
